This website contains information about the citizens‘ initiative „Save the Elisabethfehnkanal“. The Elisabethfehnkanal is a small channel in the northwestern area of Germany (near the dutch border). This beautiful traditional waterway is in danger of being closed. The channel was built in the late 1800s for dewatering the land and for shipping. It has a few locks, roadbridges and a railroad bridge, all still hand operated. One of these wooden locks is in great danger to fail and needs to be restored in order to keep the channel open. But the government doesn’t want to spend the money. More than 4.500 people have already expressed their support for our citizens‘ initiative and the call to save this treasure.
